Mother’s Day Reflection

The last praise song came on today. I saw the title, then turned to look at my oldest son.

With a big ol’ smile, he looked at me and began to sing.

Hearing him sing his heart out brought tears of joy—so much emotion bubbled up in my heart.

You see, 21 years ago today, I was holding this same child in my arms by a hotel pool in Florida, awaiting clearance to bring him home to Texas.

Reflecting on that moment, I felt the same overwhelming emotions I felt today:

Joy. Awe. Gratitude for God’s powerful hand and faithful love.

What I want you to take in today…

The God we serve:

   •   Sees His handiwork when He sees His child created with an extra chromosome—even when the world calls it “Down syndrome.”

   •   Wove together two families, across states, through a story of adoption—an answer to the prayer of a woman whose womb was barren.

   •   Pierced the heart of this child with the love of Christ, bringing him to saving faith—so he could worship with a passion like no other.

So friends, remember this:

   •   Trust when you are tempted to doubt.

   •   Forgive when you are tempted to hold on to bitterness.

   •   Have faith—even in the dark places—because He remains faithful!

Listen to the song that brought this all together
